hello everyone, you're watching press tv live from the studios in tehran. thank you for joining us. iran's president masud pesishkian says the syrian people are the ones who should decide the future of their country following his takeover by militants. pesition also called for dialogue amongst different syrian groups to determine their faith in a peaceful environment away from any violence, concern or destructive. external interference, the iranian president stressed the need for maintaining unity among syrians and preserving the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. he expressed hope that violence and conflict in syria would come to an end as soon as possible. pesition also highlighted the importance of ensuring the security of all syrian citizens and protecting holy sites as well as diplomatic and consular of missions in accordance with international law.
4:32 am
journalist robert fantina joined us earlier from sydney with his take on iran's president masud pesishian's remarks on the militant takeover of syria. the iranian president mentioned several very important points: one is and and the key one is that the future of syria must be determined by the syrian people. it must not be determined by the united states, which we know is going to want to establish a public government. that will uh recognize israel and that will abide by whatever the united states determines. this is not what the syrian people want, they want to have their own country, their own form of government. it is they who must must decide it. it's also important that any political prisoners be released, and that uh the differing sects in the uh in the country, as the president president mentioned uh gathered together to talk about how to resolve issues and differences in a peaceful way. this must be done.
4:33 am
uh by the syrian people, for the syrian people, the united states will come in and decide that they're going to broker an agreement, they're going to to foster peace, that must not be allowed to happen, united states and israel must have no no say whatsoever in the future of syria, so i think we're seeing being of of a new era for syrian people. iran's foreign minister says the developments in syria will not weaken the lebanese resistance movement. hezbollah abbas arakchi said hezbollah's current munitions, equipments and facilities are enough for his resistance over the next one or two years. regarding the collapse of the syrian government, iraqchi said the country's army got entangled in psychological warfair. he underlined that if the army had withstood, even aleppo would not have fallen to militants. arakchi added that during his recent meeting, he found president bashad surprised and complaining about the state of his army.

"the top diplomats said syria has been one of the important members of the axis of resistance and played a significant role in confronting israel and supporting palestinians. archi noted iran is closely monitoring the developments and its approach will depend on the policy militance groups in the arab country adopt towards the islamic republic. iran's ambassador to syria says the iranian embassy staff in damascus was safely. evacuated and no one was harmed during the assault on the building. it was precisely foreseen that if chaos prevailed of in the city, definitely a part of the armed individuals would try to loot various centers and attack multiple other centers before the attacking party could establish order. some of these places were exploited. fortunately, we had no injuries, no one was harmed at the embassy, including our colleagues and local forces.
4:35 am
some measures had been anticipated and equipment had been effectively evacuated, but the remain assets were subjected to a tax, which is contrary to international law. iran's ambassador noted that the syrian armed groups in question or not a single entity, but consist of various factions, some radical and extremists. however, he emphasized that they are not like daesh, as they have fought against it in the past. the ambassador pointed out that these factions have fundamental ideological differences. now going to gaza, more death and destruction in gaza as the israeli military continues to pound the blockaded territory indiscriminately. in one of the latest attacks, over two dozen palestinians including women and children were killed after

israeli war planes bombed the albarage refugee camp in central gaza. israeli air strikes on a vehicle in the noseirath refugee camp in central gaza also. caused fatalities. casualties were also reported after israeli drones struck several areas across gaza, including the nuseirat refugee camp. the regime's relentless air raise in the southern city of rafah led to the deaths of several people as well. more than 44,700 palestinians have so far been killed and over 106,00 others injured since the regime launched this genocide of war on gaza in october last year. we earlier talked to our gaza correspondent moti abu musab to get further details regarding the israeli attacks across the besieged territory. let's take a listen. yes, then actually it was another destructive and a blood day for the palestinian people in all areas of gaza strip, whereas the israeli

the warehouses and the stores in that area revealing how extensive that attack was against the northern part of fijica. there the un agency for palestinian refugees slams the longstanding failure of the international community to resolve the palestinian issue. it's 75 years of a temporary lasting organization. so if we are still here 75 years later, there is no doubt that this is the expression of a collective failure of the international community. to have promoted a fair and lasting political solution on the palestinian uh issue. latzarini while speaking at the annual doha forum commented on the history of anrua stressing that the refugee agency was intended to be a temporary

establishment. he said israel's war on gaza has killed 250 unr personnel with many of them losing their lives alongside their relatives. latsorini also pointed to the israeli attacks. on the agency's premises since october last year, he rejected israely claims that the onrar facilities have been used by the palestinian resistance movement, hamas. the israeli parliament in october passed two laws that band onruah from operating throughout the occupied palestinian territories. palestinians have faced decades of suppression and repression under the israeli occupation from the nakba in 1948 to the violent crackdowns during the... interfada in 1987. israel continuously abused palestinians in different ways. earlier, our explainer program explored the key milestones and challenges in the decades-l conflict between israel and the palestinians. let's take a look. december the
4:40 am
8th marks the 37th anniversary of the beginning of the uprising against israeli occupation. and this year this anniversary is significant due to the genocide. is still ongoing, leaving a trail of death and destruction, including over 444,00 lives. now a bit of history check is in order here, it was back in december 1987 where the deaths of four palestinians happened in the god. strip um it occurred because um the israel regime ran over uh with its truck and that sparked the mass national movements of a civil disobedience at the time against israeli occupation, it was a result of long brewing discontempt of palestinians were subjected to unspeakable oppression. dentafada was distinguished by widespread participation across the palestinian society. you have workers, you have a university students, members of cultural associations, and you have this happening in cities, in villages and also in refugee camps. palestinian resistance was characterized by general strikes, also boy cots

of israeli political institutions and israeli products and refusal to work on israeli settlements and also refusal to pay taxes to the israeli regime, but the uprising was met with brutal repression by israel, extreme violence from the israeli army or regime forces as we call resulted in over 1200 deaths. he had over 230 children also. included in that thousands more who were injured by israel's policy of beatings, by the way, the beatings included instructions to the israeli regime forces to break the bones of unarmed protesters. israel also imposed collective punishments on the palestinian population, including around the claw curfews, the closure of palestinian schools and universities, the destruction of palestinian homes, lands, crops, and the cutting of water and fuel supplies. israel made mass, even in the case of political expression. for example, anybody carrying the palestinian flag in demonstrations to suppress the resistance as a result of it.
4:42 am
during the course of the palestine at the highest incarceration rate at the time in the world of 170,000 palestinians were arrested often for acts as small as participating in a march or carrying a palestinian flag with torture routinely used against prisoners. roughly 20% of palestinians under occupation, actually including 40% of the men. through israely prisons. israel currently holds 10,000 palestinians as political prisoners, including over 500 administrative detention, in violation of the universal rights that guarantee fair trials to all people. israel's system of arrest and detention is not only immoral, it's illegal. and when it comes to interfathers, well there have been three, although many may believe only two have occurred in addition to the first interfather that we're talking about occurring in 1987, the second interfather called the alaxa to... place and it began under the 29th of december 2000, and then you have the third interfather that we're still experiencing,
4:43 am
although some don't recognize it as such, a result of the operational flood. now we'll go back to abbas arakchi's recent comments on syria and the hezballah of resistance and for that we have mr. tim anderson, director at the center for counter hegemonic studies from sydney with us as well, mr. anderson and glad. you could make it mr. anderson, your thoughts on the iranian foreign ministers comments saying that the developments in syria will not weaken hezbollah, adding that the resistance has enough munitions, equipment and facilities for the next one or two years, and also if you want to go there and say they have weakened hamas or hezbullah, you can't say they've weakened the resistance or the people's resistance itself. your thoughts on that? yes, i mean in general, that's right, the resistance is a human thing. 'and unless you destroy all human beings, you don't destroy resistance, but there's no doubt that the destruction of an
4:44 am
independent syria is a big blow to the resistance, to the access of resistance, it's a blow to hez, but it's not a fatal blow, i think it's going to weaken the resistance, um, but the resistance is down but not out. hesbollah is very disciplined, it's very well organized, it has tremendous motivation, and as the foreign minister said, it has supplies for some time and the relationship is not broken'. with iran um and then of course we have the other partners in the region in iraq and in yemen and so on so um it's not uh it's not fatal i don't believe but it is definitely a a victory for the israelilis have got compensation in effect for their defeat in south lebanon which is large part of the point of this tuckfiry invasion of of syria was to try and compensate the israeli or netanyahu let's say because netanyahu had lost substantially in having to retreat from lebanon without any of his. military objectives, but now he's got something to show for it for his own constituency. b and also said that one of the
4:45 am
reasons for the collapse of the government was that the army got entangled in psychological warfare, and if it hadn't it would, it would have withstood the insurgency. m anderson, your thoughts on that, and also it was so rapid that many believed that the army got caught off guard and especially as many believe with the militants having been helped israel and the us, well, according to a palestinian journalist in washington, there was a plan by the americans by. turkey and by israel for the second day after the seasfire to launch this attack, but in terms of the syrian response, it's true it was extraordinary, there was a complete collapse, there was no will really to fight in any part of syria for aleppo or hama or homs or damascus, and really it suggest that a deal was done, now we don't know exactly what that deal was, but i suspect it involved very senior levels of the syrian
4:46 am
government, some sort of deal, they were concerned, i think they were listening more to the gulf... the gulf cooperation council, the the the arab monarchies of the persian gulf, more than to iran, they didn't agree to iran's offer to for assistance, and they were trying to rather play some sort of game with the with the the arab monachies, and of course they knew that the countries were funding hts with turkey, they knew that the muslim brother was organized against them there, but i think the leadership was really misled and then engaged in some... of deal to save lives, undoubtedly it did in a way because there was very little fighting, it was really almost almost a bloodless coup, although there's chaos now, there's a lot of shooting and random violence going on in damascus, the hospitals are full of wounded people, my friends are telling me there, many people feel afraid, many want to leave the country, but in terms of the collaps of the army, there was some sort of deal in there, we don't know the full
4:47 am
details of that deal yet, that's right, mr. anderson, and mr. anderson, before we let you go, what could we expect from uh for the future of syria and what needs to be done for a peaceful transition and for the stability and security of the country? well, it's certain that the the uh hts terrorist group is not going to be able to market itself as a government by itself, it will need collaborators, it will need people. it already has many in the civil administration offering for whatever reason to cooperate to maintain government services in health in many other areas and so on so. they will have to form some sort of coalition, they will have to try and white wash the image that they have, remember hts, unlike hezball, unlike hamas, are banned as a terrorist organization under the un security council, they have some serious image problems to deal with, they also have this un security council resolutions about democratic processes and elections and new constitution and so on, which the russians
4:48 am
are reminding people of, so i think there's going to be a substantial period of a very weak administration. facing an israeli invasion now, the israelis have invaded from the south to try and extend their concept of buffer zones, so clearly they have their eyes on on syria, even some of the ministers have been talking about annexing damascus, so we don't how far the israeli invasion is going to go, but it's pretty clear that a us proxy force like hts is not going to be able to resist the israel, certainly not by themselves, so we're looking a t a period of instability there, there you have mr. tim anderson, the director at the center for counter hegemonic. is from sydney, mr. anderson, thank you for your time sir, now israel continues to breach the seasfire agreement with lebanon, as the regime has carried out more airal aggression against the arab country, three civilians including a woman was were killed in a drone attack on the bean in southern lebanon. there are reports of israely drone activity in nebatia and
4:49 am
tier as well. israely forces also entered a minefield in lebanon's border. with the occupied palestinian territories, killing one person and injuring a number of others. the truth between israel and lebanon took effect on november 27th, but since then israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire. the israeli aggression against lebanon since october last year has taken the lives of over 4,000 people. yemen has once again hit a vital israeli target in the occupied palestinian territories. the spokesman of the yemeni armed force. said the drone attack was carried out in cooperation with the islamic resistance in iraq and in solidarity with the people of gaza. triumping for the oppression of the palestinian people and their mujahidin and in response to the crimes of the israeli enemy against our people in gaza. the yemani armed forces in cooperation with the islamic

lose their parents, siblings and families, because this is not just their fight, it is our fight, it is a fight for justice, equality and humanity, we do not just stand against the occupation, we stand against the principle that some lives are working more than others, australia has shifted its stance backing the un resolution. urging israel to end its unlawful presence in palestinian territories. while activists welcome the move, they argue it's an election ploy unless australia imposes sanctions and servers ties with israel. the resolution saw 157 nations in favor with eight opposed. it's very clear what they're doing. they're very cynical. they know that there's an election coming up. they know, they know that many seats of theirs have uh that they rely on to hold government. have very large arab
